SIGLinux is the Special Interest Group on GNU/Linux, the free and open source alternative operating system. It is a student organization for discussion about free software and help for new users. Though Linux is the main focus, other *nixes such as BSD and Mac OS X are fair play too.

Starting another year. Once again, Ohio Linux Fest is coming up -- it's September 30th, so interested parties should register right away. As always, it's completely free and a lot of fun.

SigLinux is going to have a meeting next Wednesday, March 1, at 7:30 pm! It
will be in Kreger 135. The topic will be DATABASE FILESYSTEMS. Tag-based
filing is all the rage these days - iTunes, iPhoto, amaroK, and similar apps
for every sort of media are taking over. Moving tag-based filing into the
filesystem, instead of with a separate app for every kind of file, makes a
lot of sense, and some projects are doing just that.

Our first meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday September 20th, from 7-8 pm in Kreger 135. I will be discussing GoboLinux and why it's so special.

The Ohio Linux Fest, a gathering of Linux enthusiasts, will be held next week (Saturday, October 2nd) in Columbus. Anyone interested in going should register ASAP at http://www.ohiolinux.org/.
If people are interested in going we can share a ride! If you're interested ask on the mailing list.

The SEAS Welcome Back Picnic and Student Organization Fair are tonight outside Alexander Dining Hall (on Western Campus) from 4:30-7:30 pm. SigLinux is kicking off there, so come by!
